Fossilized Spinosaurus Tooth Specimen

Fossilized Spinosaurus Tooth Specimen

The Spinosaurus was a sail fin Therapod dinosaur. This means that the creature had broad club shaped spines or spikes on its back. The stegosaurus is the most famous of the dinosaurs that have fins.

The Spinosaurus spikes projected up to 2 metres (6 feet) from the backbone. Scientists have determined that the spikes were covered with skin. They believe that the fins were used to regulate body temperature. They could also have been used for protection. Unlike the four-legged stegosaurus, the Spinosaurus walked upright on two hind legs. The Spinosaurus had small, short front arms. The Spinosaurus was a carnivorous dinosaur that ate a lot of fish. The weight of the creature could get up to 7 tonnes, the length could reach 12 metres (39 feet). These creatures lived about 75 million years ago.

Unlike other carnivores whose teeth were curved, the Spinosaurus had straight teeth. A lot of work goes into cleaning and preparing the pieces for display.
